Salaries for IT professionals have varied over the past few years. Still, those professionals holding one of Cisco’s CCIE certifications continue to demand the highest salaries. A recent survey by Payscale indicates that the salary you can demand with your CCIE certification depends a lot on your job role.

This makes sense because the more responsibilities you have, you will generally be worth more to your employer. While compensation by employers may vary widely, one common truth continues to hold true: an employer will pay an employee an amount they can justify based on the value that employee brings to the organization. If you are worth more to your employer, you will earn more compensation from your employer.

Salary is not the only measure of “success” when it comes to the value of being certified. Being Cisco CCIE certified gives you a much better chance of being on the better projects, being asked for your technical opinion and being one of the first names that comes to mind when your employer needs a technical expert.

If you decide to wait (or accidentally end up waiting) until the last minute to recertify your Cisco certification, keep in mind you must now wait 5 days in between exam attempts if you don’t pass on the first time.
